SUE GILKEY

Sue Gilkey began painting as a child, inspired and encouraged by her French Grandfather. She went on to earn her BFA in painting from the University of New Hampshire, USA. There she was classically trained in materials and techniques across all subjects. Her work is observational and intuitive, bringing together subject and narrative, “I absorb imagery and over time a finished painting idea will emerge in my mind, usually inspired by a story I have heard or a scene I have observed many times. My muse is Ireland and I find inspiration there in the ever changing light and atmospheric conditions. I love the countryside and the farm life that surrounds me.”

Gilkey exhibits in both her U.S. and Irish galleries. She is a juried member of the Salmagundi Club, NY, NY. She has won numerous awards and exhibited in major U.S. shows, most recently, Oil Painters of America, 2015 National Exhibition. Her work is in private collections in the U.S. and Europe. She maintains a teaching practice in her Boston area studio and teaches annual workshops in her Irish studio.
